Malvern Bank Super Late Models set for Lakeside Speedway this Friday

An action-packed Friday night of racing on the river’s edge awaits fans this Friday at Lakeside Speedway as the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series makes its first appearance of the year at the track. Also on the card are USRA B-Mods, Factory Stocks, E-Mods and Mod-Lites as the guest class.

Early season front-runners on the SLMR Series include Ben Schaller, Kyle Berck, Tad Pospisil, Jason O’Brien, and Beill Leighton. Winners on the tour so far this season include Berck, Corey Zeitner, Justin Kay and Schalle.

Berck has won the last two races heading into this weekend’s $2,000-to-win Lakeside Speedway event. Past champions of the series include Al Humphrey (2008), Mike Wiarda (2009), Berck (2010, 2013-16), Travis Dickes (2011-12) and Pospisil is the defending series champ. Berck is the all-time series win leader with 77 victories. The series is now in its 11th year of existence. For additional information on the series, visit www.slmrseries.com.

In local competition, Shawn Burns continues to lead the way in E-Mods over Billy Spilman and Ben Stockton while Marshall Jewett shows the way in Factory Stocks ahead of Wayne Brooke and Matthew Matsukevich. Tim Powell holds a firm lead in the USRA B-Mods over Brad Smith and Luke Nieman. In the first appearance of the year for the Mod-Lites, Dillon Raffurty drove to the victory with Ed Griggs and David Raffurty close behind.

Friday also serves at Realtors Night at the speedway. Realtors may show their official realtor’s card and their ticket to the grandstands to watch the races is absolutely free. All car classes will compete in full program of preliminary events and main events throughout the night.

Due to the summer heat Lakeside Speedway will continue with the 30-minute later start times until Sept. 7. The pit area will open at 5 p.m., followed by general admission beginning at 5:30. Driver pill draw ends at 7 with the drivers meeting at 7:15. Hot laps begin at 7:30 followed by racing at 8 p.m.

For Friday, June 15, general admission is $12, senior citizens (65+) and military are $10, kids ages 7-12 are $6 and children ages 6 and under are free. Suite seating is $20 for adults, or $10 for kids ages 2-12. Pit passes for adults are $30, kids 6 and under are $10.

Drivers are reminded they must race in at the very least 75% of Lakeside’s weekly races to become eligible for prize monies.
