Next generation of race fans take spotlight Friday at Lakeside Speedway

This Friday, August 3rd at Lakeside Speedway marks the annual Kid’s Night at the Races, featuring USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, Grand nationals, Factory Stocks, E-Mods and Mod-Lites as guest class.

As part of the fun night, Lakeside Speedway will give away backpacks to the first 100 kids ages 7 to 12 and fifty backpacks to the 6 and under age group. Kids will participate in activities such as fun rides around the track in buses, chances to win bikes, and intermission-time races on the track for boys and girls.

In the chase for the weekly championship points, Marshall Jewett leads the way in Factory Stock competition with Wayne Brooke and Matthew Matsukevich next in line. Kacey Shields owns a 33-point lead over Don Marrs in Grand Nationals with Nick Newton third. Billy Spilman holds strong in the E-Mods ahead of Ben Stockton and Shawn Burns. Kevin Anderson has nearly an insurmountable lead over Brett Heeter and David Oxford. In USRA B-Mod action, Brad Smith has the lead by one single point over Tim Powell with Luke Nieman in third. Mark Schafman shows now signs of letting up in USRA Modifieds and commands the lead over Kerry Davis and Tim Karrick heading into this weekend. Drivers are reminded they must compete in 75 percent of the Lakeside season events to be eligible for the end-of-season championship point’s fund.

Friday also marks the 4th week of the ‘Smokin’ Hot Summer Series. Drivers in the USRA Modified, B-Mod, and Stock Car divisions will again compete throughout the night with extra contingencies and mini-series points on the line between Lakeside Speedway on Friday and I-35 Speedway on Saturday.

Due to the summer heat Lakeside Speedway will continue with the 30-minute later start times through Friday, September 7, 2018. This Friday, Pit Gate Opens at 5:00 p.m., Spectator Gates at 5:30, Drivers Meeting at 7:15, Hot Laps at 7:30, and Racing at 8.

For Friday, Pit Gates open at 5:00 p.m., General Admission begins at 5:30 p.m. The Driver’s Meeting takes place at 7:15, followed by Hot Laps at 7:30 ad Racing at 8:00. Adult Admission is $12, Seniors 62 and over and Military $10, All Kids 12 and under are Free. Pit passes are $30, kid’s pit passes are $10 (ages 6 and under). Suites seating is available for $20, Kids ages 2 years to 12 years are $10 for the suites.
