(Kansas City, Kansas) Summer-like weather finally greeted drivers and fans at Lakeside Speedway on Friday evening for Pepsi Night at the Races. After consecutive weeks of wet weather, the warmer temps and blue skies were a welcome sight for all in attendance.

A total of 76 race teams checked in for the action among five classes, including 11 A-Mods, 18 B-Mods, 20 Stock Cars, 11 Pure Stocks, and 16 E-Mods. Drivers competed in a total of 15 events, which included 10 preliminary heat races and five main events during the race program.

It was a rough and tumble night for the Stock Cars as several red flags marred the main event just one week away from the Gary D stock car memorial. Several drivers were left scratching their heads with repair work in front of them this week in preparation for next week’s special event. Hank Thompson maneuvered all the problems behind the wheel of his #6 machine and captured the victory with Kevin Anderson, Dennie Belknap, Daniel King, and Shane Schmidt behind him. Paul Carter was sixth in the event, the last car to finish the race among the 20 original starters. Shields and Belknap sit tied atop the standings with Belknap and Walker within five points of the leaders.

Heat 1 - 6 Laps: 1. 42C-Kacey Shields[3]; 2. 24K-Daniel King[2]; 3. 6-Hank Thompson[4]; 4. 91J-Jaylen Wettengel[1]; 5. 46P-Tim Pruett[5]; 6. 27-David Oxford[8]; 7. 105-Clint Hedge[6]; 8. 824-Chris Barnard[10]; 9. 39K-Shane Schmidt[9]; 10. 11W-Gerald Wahwahsuck[7]

Mike Ryun is a familiar name in the KC area when it comes to racing, especially in a late model, but on this night, Ryun was a hired gun for a friend and captured the Pure Stock main event in a classic battle with Garry Billings for the victory. Behind Ryun and Billings at the line were Don Marrs, Matt Janes and Marshall Jewett. Marrs, Jewett, and Reiff continue to make it a three-car battle for the top of the standings.

Spencer Reiff, Buz Kaster, and Tim Billings filled out the top five at the finish. Hand has a sizeable lead over Dennis Melvin and Reiff in the standings.
