Last Week’s Recap…
It was just a week ago that Darron Fuqua regained his swagger from a year ago and picked up his 2nd USRA Modified Feature win. Brett Heeter maintained his dominance over the USRA Stock Car class with feature win #7. Chase Austin showed that he is one of the hottest drivers (if not the hottest) at Lakeside Speedway in the past month as he won his 3rd race in 4 weeks. Win #12 came to Greg Shields in the Grand National main event.

Setting Up This Week’s Races…

USRA Modifieds…

It was a year ago and Darron Fuqua was rolling into Victory Lane quite frequently. This season it’s been an UP and mainly down season for Fuqua. Fuqua has suffered a lot of mechanical failures that weren’t his fault. Now he has a new piece under the hood and it’s paying dividends. Last week he not only won at Lakeside, but he also took home a Sunday night win at Humboldt Speedway.

With only 5 races left before Championship night Kerry Davis has a commanding lead over the competition. Davis can’t rest easy just yet. We have seen all kinds of weird things happen when it comes to points battles.

Twenty-two competitors checked in for action last week in the USRA Modified division. As some tracks end their season before Lakeside Speedway it’s possible for some new faces to give Lakeside Speedway a try before the end of the year.

One of those drivers to give Lakeside Speedway a try last week was former 2007 Lakeside Champ, John Allen. Allen was the points champ at Humboldt Speedway this season, didn’t have the return he wanted but did come home with a top 5 finish coming home in 4th.

Three of the top 15 in USRA National Points raced at Lakeside Speedway last Friday night. John Allen 5th in national points was 4th, Tim Karrick 6th in national points was 3rd and Aarron Marrant 15th in national points finished 22nd.

Tim Karrick #1K, Basehor, KS.

Tim Karrick has been the Driver to Watch This Week before. Karrick is feeling a resurgence. This season he has rolled a few wins together, not only at Lakeside Speedway but also at CMS, another USRA sister track. Strong runs at both tracks have him in the top 5 in points at both tracks and he is in the top 5 nationally with the USRA. This has got to be a boost in the arm for Karrick and running down the last 6 races, look for Karrick to make a charge. He has been running strong week after week it should only be a matter of time before another win comes his way.

USRA Stock Cars…

Brett Heeter is having a banner year. Win #7 was an easy one. Heeter is getting closer and closer to his 3rd straight title. If he can get it done it will be his 4th title overall. If the next few weeks go like the last month, Heeter will close it out in style.

Heeter is currently 7th in the USRA Stock Car National point standings.

One has to wonder what would the outcome have been if Kevin Anderson hadn’t missed a few races after his hard crash early in the season? Would there be a big battle at the top for the points? Anderson has matched Heeter with 7 wins, but the races he missed hurt a lot in the standings. Bench racers will have to chat about this one for days.

Nate Barnes is a driver that wants to get the job done. He is hungry for a win but right now he keeps stalling out inside the top 5. Will Barnes get it done before the season ends?

The USRA Stock Car division has stalled out with 6 different winners on the season. Is this weekend the time for winner #7?

Gary Donaldson #28D, MO.

Gary Donaldson has been slowing getting his feet back into the racing game. The former Grand National 2013 Track Champ at Lakeside Speedway, decided to get a USRA Stock Car this season and give it a go. Last week in the feature he raced his way to a 4th place finish. In just a few races Donaldson has become a factor. Everyone that knows Donaldson, knows he is a competitor and a winner. It shouldn’t be long before he races his way into victory lane! It could be as soon as this Friday night.

USRA B Mods…

Chase Austin is on fire in the past 4 weeks. In the past 4 weeks Austin has picked off 3 wins and a runner-up finish. Austin has raced at the highest levels of racing professionally, but now finds himself back at home racing on the local short tracks that he cut his teeth on. One reason Austin might be having such a turnaround is that he has no pressure. He is just having fun and sometimes that’s all anyone ever needs.

Last week’s ‘Hard Charger’ might have been Chase Galvan. Garlvan hustled his way from a 23rd place starting spot to finish in the 12th position. It could be a sign that Galvan might be one of the drivers to watch down the stretch.

Ed Noll finished 5th last week. Another top 5 finish keeps him on top of the standings for another week as he leads Luke Nieman by 79 points.

Speaking of points, Lakeside Speedway regulars Ed Noll and Shad Turner are 10th and 11th in the most recent USRA B Mod National Point Standings.

Two more new drivers showed up last week and that now raises the total number of drivers to accumulate points in 2015 in the B Mods to 75! The most of any class.

The USRA B Mod can also boast that they have 9 different feature winners on the season.

Eddie Schwope #91, St. Joseph, MO.

Schwope started the season battling for the points lead. He didn’t get a win but each and every week, early, he seemed to find his way into victory lane. After not running every single event Schwope has found himself out of the points chase. It’s ok with him. He races for the love of the sport. It’s something him and his family have been doing for decades. Look each week as Schwope goes out to do better than he did the week before. Don’t be surprised if he does better than he did last week! If he does, that would put him in victory lane.
