The 65th year of watching the dirt fly at Lakeside Speedway is coming to an end after a tumultuous summer of highs and lows with rising and receding flood waters. Even so, and after one more round of rising waters foiled the last few weeks of racing, Pete Howey and the entire staff at the Speedway are ready to close out the abbreviated season on a high note.

Racing officially comes to a close this Friday, October 18 with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, plus Mod-Lites. The event features a special appearance by NASCAR star Kasey Kahne with an autograph session set from 4 to 5 p.m. Pit gates will open at 2 p.m., followed by grandstands at 4, hot laps at 6:30, and racing at 7:30. Tickets for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown may be purchased online at slspromotions.com or by calling SLS Promotions at 815-344-2023 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT).

Lakeside Speedway will then officially close the season with the annual combined Lakeside Speedway and Central Missouri Speedway racing banquet, which takes place at the Elks Lodge in Blue Springs, Missouri on Saturday, November 9. At the banquet, Lakeside Speedway will recognize their top five points leaders in the A-Mod, B-Mod, Stock Car, E-Mod and Pure Stock divisions. Lakeside speedway will also recognize the top performers in the Grand National and Mod-Lite divisions, and will hand out the hardware for the Top Gun Series top-performing drivers. Contact the track office at (913) 299-9206 or Karen Darling at (660) 229-0952 for tickets and event information.

The deadline for tickets and meal choice for the event is October 25. Attendees have a choice of chicken or pork for their main entrée. The meal will also feature sides, salad and a drink. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 and awards to follow. Tickets are $25 per person.

Don’t forget about the ongoing Zombie Purge Paintball Hunt at the LakesideSpeedway. The attraction features the paintball shooting, live target interaction and monster trucks. On select dates in October, guests can climb aboard a 14-foot-tall monster bus and fire away at zombies roaming the Lakeside Hot Zone. Hunts start at 6 p.m. each night and run every 20 minutes. Patrons can purchase tickets for their preferred date and time slot online at ZombiePurge.com or at Lakeside Speedway the night of each event. Event dates are October 19, 25-26, 28-30 and November 1-2. Ticket prices are $20 for all ages, which includes 100 rounds of paintballs.
