Lakeside Speedway held its first special event of the season Friday evening hosting the Malvern Bank SLMR Super Late Models along with the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series featuring Stock Cars, B-Mods, Pure Stocks and Mod Lites. A stellar field of 90 race teams filled the pit stalls and competed in 17 events to fill out the evening’s program.

At the end of the night, Tad Pospisil had captured his second SLMR victory of the season while Andy Bryant powered his way to his first B-Mod win of the year. Don Marrs captured his first Pure Stock main event of the new season while Chad Walker picked up the Stock Car victory. Dillon Raffurty was once again victorious in Mod Lite action.

Pospisil lined up fourth on the grid for the start of the 30-lap SLMR Super Late Model main event behind front-row starters Brian Kosiski and Jake Neal. It did not take long for Pospisil to grab the lead and seal the deal with his second victory of the SLMR season. Pospisil was last year’s series champion. Josh Leonard advanced from sixth to capture runner-up honors while local standout Aaron Marrant found his way from tenth at the start to round out the podium in third.

After claiming the opening heat race, Bryant, of Fort Scott, began the 20-lap B-Mod main alongside Tim Powell to lead the field to green. While Powell slipped to fourth at the finish, Terry Schultz and Luke Nieman found their way to the top three in the running order but were unable to mount a challenge on the dominant Bryant who captured the victory ahead of Schultz and Nieman.

Spencer Reiff and Marrs, of Shawnee, earned front-row starting spots for the Pure Stock main event. It was a hard-fought battle up front as multi-time 2020 season winner Garry Billings Jr. advanced from sixth to third to join in on the action. However, at the end of the race Marrs found himself in victory lane celebrating the win over Reiff and Billings.

The Stock Car main event saw the biggest shakeup in the final rundown as several drivers advanced from deeper in the field to make their way to the front. Jason Anderson and Hank Thompson began the action from row one. Meanwhile, Walker, Kacey Shields and Dennie Belknap raced their way into the top three. At the end of the race it was Walker who captured his first win of the year over last week’s main event winner, Shields. Belknap moved from seventh in the lineup to round out the top three.

David Raffurty and Michael Raffurty were the polesitters for the Mod Lite main event with both drivers running strong at the front. However, as he has done so many times before, Dillon Raffurty quickly found his way to the point and went on to capture yet another metro win for the division. Michael Raffurty ran one of his best races to capture second while Ed Griggs battled hard to finish third.

Up next Friday, May 7, Lakeside Speedway hosts the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series featuring A-Mods, Stock Cars, B-Mods, Pure Stocks, E-Mods and Grand Nationals.
