ASCS Sprint Cars, SLMR Late Models highlight big week at Lakeside Speedway

September 6, 2022

The Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., is geared up for two big shows this week, beginning with ASCS Sprint Cars headlining the show this Thursday, Sept. 8, and the SLMR Late Models circling the historic 4/10-mile high banks on Friday, Sept. 9.

Leading the only lap that mattered, Blake Hahn made up a nearly 2.5-second disadvantage over the final five laps to steal the win away from Matt Covington off the final turn in a thriller here on Aug. 2 when the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series saw the ASCS National and ASCS Warrior Region Sprint Cars collide at Lakeside.

Both ASCS-sanctioned 360 Winged Sprint Car series return this Thursday with another $3,000 top prize on the line.

Previous winners include Sam Hafertepe Jr. (2021), Seth Bergman (2018), Aaron Reutzel (2017), Brian Brown (2016), Wayne Johnson (2008) and Gary Wright (2007).

USRA B-Mods will be racing for $750 to win and E-Mods will battle for $1,000 to win courtesy of SealKC—Kansas City's leader in the advanced protection of concrete.

Pits open at 4 p.m., spectator seating opens at 6, hot laps begin at 7:15 and racing gets underway at 8.

On Friday, the Malvern Bank Super Late Model West Series is back in action at the Lakeside Speedway with a $3,000 to-win clash.

Multi-time series champion Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., won the last two SLMR events at the Lakeside Speedway—both coming last season. Cory Dumpert, Kyle Berck and Jesse Sobbing are also past winners here.

Bill Leighton currently has a 68-point advantage over Sobbing in the points, with Corey Zeitner, Pospisil and Jake Neal rounding out the top five.

USRA Stock Cars and Pure Stocks will also be in action. Pits open at 5 p.m., spectator seating opens at 6, hot laps begin at 7 and racing gets underway at 7:30.
